So your Etsy shop isn’t getting the views, favorites and most importantly, orders that you NEED it go get. I know the feeling. In our second month on Etsy we had a mere 10 orders for $252.90 in sales.
We were excited of course that we had sales, however it was still frustrating that we weren’t getting more sales. Fast forward 1 year and look at how much things changed:
Want to know how we did it? We’re not going to give you all of our trade secrets here but here are 3 quick fixes you NEED to make right now if you want to grow your Etsy business.
- Inspect and change your listing Titles
The philosophy we use now for listings goes a little something like this – (Generic High Ranking Search Title, Color and style, more keyword rich description). Go ahead and stuff the title as much as you can. Use as many of the 140 characters as makes sense. You don’t want to use 40 characters and let valuable real estate slip away.
If I were selling a vintage, black and gold boho dress I might be tempted to title it somethings like this: (High quality handmade gold and black boho dress with v-neck). That’s not terrible, however it’s probably not going to get you a ton of views. Instead I would rather title it something like this(Black and Gold Boho Dress | Vintage Boho Dress | V Neck Bohemian Party Dress). Really stuff the front end of your title with quality keywords. Also, make sure your tags match many of the listing keywords so that it’s very clear to Etsy what your item is and how they should display it to customers.
2. Duplicate your listings
Not having enough listings is a common mistake Etsy sellers make, especially newer sellers. The thought process is that it’s somehow going to confuse or alienate your customers if you have 2, 3 or even 4 of the same product. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Etsy is an intent based marketplace, that means you need to have as many chances to have your listing seen when a customer searches for a product. Your customers don’t care if there are multiples of the same listing and more importantly, you need customers to find your product. It’s commonly agreed to that Etsy gives your shop a boost in visibility if you have more listings. If you have less than 40 listings this is really really important. I would immediately take action and duplicate your listings. You can try changing the featured image, tags and category. This can be an excellent way to find out what works for your shop in regards to Etsy SEO. Listings only cost $.20 each so it’s well worth it to increase your market visibility.
3. Take more pictures from different angles and get them on models if you can
Sure you can sell listings with just 1 picture. We did. We also doubled our sales once we started taking many different angles of our products.
Think of it like this: You have about 3-5 seconds once someone clicks on your listing to convince them through your pictures that they want to even scroll down to see your product description, price, materials, production time etc. The most important that that can set you aside (besides a phenomenally unique product) is your pictures. Don’t skimp on this and don’t assume that your customers don’t want to see so many angles of you product. So head on out to Hobby Lobby, get some staging items and takes lots of pictures. Try to get at least 5 pictures per listing and eventually we recommend adding some infographic pics and size chart or other relevant info on your pictures.
